Good Samaritan Clinic is an interdenominational faith-based ministry providing medical care, dental care, mental health counseling, farmworker outreach, confidential HIV testing and counseling, ancillary services, and prescription medications to Burke County residents who are without government assistance, private insurance, or the financial resources to afford such care. No one is ever refused services based on race, gender, religious beliefs, or sexual orientation. Good Samaritan Clinic was founded on the belief that healthcare is an essential right for all, regardless of the ability to pay.
The dream of a Good Samaritan Clinic in Burke County was sparked in the mid 1990s when three nurses, Ruby Seitz, Ann Azbell, and Mary Lloyd, had a conversation about the need for health care for those in our community who were working at low wage jobs without the benefit of health insurance. They began to explore the possibility of having a free clinic with an all volunteer staff, and in June 1996, Good Samaritan Clinic opened its doors.
Since opening its doors in 1996, Good Samaritan Clinic has provided low-cost healthcare to more than 10,000 local residents valued at more than $25 million. Through volunteer commitment and strong community partnerships, the clinic provides mor than $4 million in free medical care and prescriptions annually.
Our patients represent the most vulnerable segment of our community. In order to qualify, patients must be residents of Burke County, have no private or government health insurance, and have household incomes less than 200% of federal poverty levels.
